He took her picture without her knowledge, sent her thousands of “aggressive” text messages and threatened to kill himself if she reported him: a Boucherville high school soccer coach “obsessed” with a 16-year-old teenager was sentenced on Monday to more than two years in prison.

Mortheza Javad pleaded guilty last August to charges of harassment, breach of condition and obstruction of justice. He was a soccer coach at De Mortagne high school in Boucherville at the time of the incident.
The facts related by judge Julie-Maude Greffe on Monday afternoon are disturbing: the 26-year-old man had an unhealthy obsession with the young girl, with whom he wanted to start a romantic relationship. Even after his arrest and detention in 2021, he continued to communicate with the young victim.
The latter has also rejected his advances on numerous occasions.
Yet the coach sent thousands of ‘threatening and aggressive’ text messages to the teenager for nearly a year.
According to the judge, the trainer was completely obsessed with the idea of being in a relationship with the young victim. “He is insistent. He follows her and she has to hide, ”continued the judge, emphasizing the “obsessive and excessive” behavior of the accused.
When the teenager filed a complaint, he tried to force her into silence. The coach threatened to reveal intimate things about her and to go after people she knows. He even sent her a knife picture and threatened to kill himself if she told anyone anything.
He was detained following this complaint, then released in February 2022.
Despite police and judicial interventions and the victim’s clear refusal to make any contact, he continued to chase her.
As soon as he was released, Mr. Javad reconnected with the young girl. In one month, he wrote her more than 175 messages. He is arrested a second time. During a meeting with an investigator, he admitted not being able to respect his conditions, because he could not “conceive of life without his victim”, reports the judge.
Distress in the victim
Anxiety, stress, heart palpitations: the victim – aged 16 at the time of the events – was caught in a veritable vicious circle.

In a letter of apology to the victim, Mr. Javad acknowledges his responsibility and justifies his actions by the fact that “he was not well. “He explains that he is ashamed of his actions and does not understand why his reactions are excessive, it is indicated in the pre-sentence report submitted to the judge, passages of which were cited in court on Monday afternoon.
He has 14 months left to serve, having been detained for a year. He will be on probation for three years.
