Municipal and federal elected officials announced this agreement on Monday, which will be carried out under the National Housing Co-Investment Fund (FNCIL) of the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC).

The 4,700 housing units of the Société d’habitation et de développement de Montréal (SHDM) will benefit from this agreement.

“It’s a challenge to renovate and ensure that people can stay in their homes, and that housing remains affordable,” said Benoit Dorais, responsible for housing on the executive committee of the City of Montreal, in an interview. “With the federal subsidy and the one that the City will give, it equips the SHDM to do the work, because by 2028 it will be able to put 89 million in renovations. »

In fact, the City of Montreal will grant funding that could range from $4.6 million to $12.6 million for this project, and the SHDM will add funds from its own budget.

“Renovating our homes to make them more comfortable and efficient contributes to better use of our energy resources, and will result in savings on electricity bills. This is an important step towards a fairer and greener society where everyone can live properly,” said Steven Guilbeault, MP for Laurier – Sainte-Marie and Minister of Environment and Change, in a press release. climatic.
