The 19/20 info receives, Tuesday October 31, Patrick Haddad, Socialist Party (PS) mayor of Sarcelles (Yvelines), where a large Jewish community lives. He comes to talk about the numerous Star of David tags which have been discovered on buildings in Île-de-France.

Several municipalities in Île-de-France have been affected by anti-Semitic tags and acts in recent days, including Star of David tags on buildings. Guest of 19/20 info, Tuesday October 31, the Socialist Party (PS) mayor of Sarcelles (Yvelines) affirms that “This is not the case” in his city. “We are lucky, because since October 7, there have been more than 800 anti-Semitic acts that have been recorded [en France, NDLR] (…) We don’t have anything like that. We have security forces deployed in significant numbers with reinforcements coming from the Ministry of the Interior.”continues Patrick Haddad.

Fear in the community

Asked about the fear of the Jewish community, the mayor confirms that it is “very worried”. “It is reminiscent of the darkest hours in history, to target Jewish homes. But even before this event, the Jewish community was worried because they have relatives, French people from Israel. Many have family there -low. And then, they say to themselves that the importation of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict is still possible, with a resurgence of anti-Semitism. (…) They are right to be afraid, and at the same time, we must do everything to that everything goes better”concludes the mayor of Sarcelles.
