The Russian tennis player published a long message on his social networks on Sunday afternoon, in which he first goes back to what he said at a press conference after his defeat in the Australian Open final, there one month old. “The little boy has stopped dreaming,” he hinted in reference to the public’s attitude towards him during the tournament.
This time, Medvedev speaks “on behalf of all children around the world”, he writes first in English, then in Russian.
“They all have their dreams, their life is just beginning, adds the one who will be world number one from Monday. They have so many experiences to live. […] It is for this reason that I want to ask for peace in the world, peace between countries. »
“Children are born with an inner trust in the world, they believe so much in everything: in people, in love, in safety and justice, in their chances in life. Let’s get together and show them it’s true, because kids shouldn’t stop dreaming. »

Over the past few days, several Russian athletes have taken a stand on the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine. At the Acapulco tournament on Thursday, Andrey Rublev wrote “No war, please” on a camera lens after his victory.
Washington Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin also said Friday that he hopes “it will be over soon and there will be peace.” The star striker’s profile picture on Instagram still shows him alongside Russian President Vladimir Putin.
