Steeve Charland, nicknamed “the Artiss”, was arrested Saturday evening in the Vankleek Hill area, in connection with the demonstration in the capital, said the Ottawa Police Service, in a press release. The 48-year-old, from Grenville, faces charges of mischief and counseling others to commit mischief. He is due to appear on Sunday, according to the statement.

“I have no idea how long they will keep it, but I will keep you posted,” said Mr. Charland’s spouse, Karol Tardif, in a video posted on Facebook on Saturday evening. Steeve Charland is one of the former leaders of the identity group La Meute.

After retreating to Ottawa last weekend, protesters had converged on new gathering places, such as Herb’s truck stop in Vankleek Hill, located between Montreal and Ottawa.

In order to supply truckers during their demonstration, the Farfadaas occupied a private parking lot in Gatineau for several days, before receiving an order from the Superior Court forcing them to leave the premises.

More details will follow.
