Tribute from Lebanese Toulouse, two years after the huge explosion at the port of Beirut

On August 4, 2020, two huge explosions were heard in Beirut and up to several kilometers around. The human toll is heavy with more than 200 dead and 6,500 injured.

At the origin of the explosion, tons of ammonium nitrate stored without precaution. This same compound that caused the explosion of the AZF factory in Toulouse in 2001.

In Beirut at the time of the explosion, the Lebanese Senina saw the windows of her house explode. Some of his friends died, others lost their homes or jobs. Present at Place du Capitole, she expresses her anger and sadness “we don’t feel good when we don’t have the right to know the truth. »

Also among the demonstrators, Philippe, who left Lebanon a year and a half ago. Two years after the accident, the emotion he feels is still just as strong. A pain comparable to what the inhabitants of Toulouse experienced after the explosion of the AZF factory, even if for Philippe “in France at least something is done from the point of view of justice, there, it’s really complicated “.
