The suspect in the so-called “scooter rapist” case admitted rape among the charges against him, Grenoble public prosecutor Eric Vaillant said at a press conference on Monday April 8. “The accused admitted only one act of rape, not the other six facts that we accuse him of”he detailed. “He admitted the act of rape for which he is confused by his DNA”added Eric Vaillant.
The suspect arrested Friday in this case, aged 22, was indicted and placed in pre-trial detention on Sunday. The man is being chased “for two rapes, an attempted rape, an attempted sexual assault, an attempted extortion and two acts of violence”, said the prosecution. During his custody, the suspect had denied the factsFranceinfo learned from a source close to the matter on Sunday morning.
The DNA expertise of the samples taken during the suspect’s custody, carried out urgently by the Lyon national police laboratory, made it possible to confuse the individual “on one of the cases which the prosecution referred to the investigating judge”reported Eric Vaillant on Saturday. “Only one rape can be reliably attributed to the suspect thanks to DNA. At this stage, the investigation continues into the other facts”he added.
