On the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the Liberation, Emmanuel Macron chaired a ceremony, Sunday April 7, in Haute-Savoie, in tribute to the resistance fighters who confronted the German army on the Glières plateau. He also went to the children’s home in Izieu, in Ain.

He arrives at the Glières plateau (Haute-Savoie) at noon on Sunday April 7. Emmanuel Macron is beginning a long seven-month cycle to commemorate a major event in our history: the Liberation. The first stop for the president is at Glières. This is where, 80 years ago, many resistance fighters faced the German army as well as the Vichy militia. “The 129 martyrs of Glières contributed to saving the honor of France”commented Emmanuel Macron.

Other trips to come

The president’s second stop, for this commemoration, takes place in Izieu, in Ain. It was in a house in this town that the Gestapo rounded up 44 Jewish children on April 6, 1944. In this place steeped in history, Emmanuel Macron was able to talk with the people there. On April 16, it will be in the Vercors that the Head of State will continue the commemoration of the Liberation.
