By appointing Gabriel Attal Prime Minister, Emmanuel Macron chose an early leader. The two men, who know each other well, maintain a relationship of trust.
While he officially becomes the new tenant of Matignon, Gabriel Attal’s first words were for the head of state. “The youngest President of the Republic in history appoints the youngest Prime Minister in history. I only want to see one symbol: that of audacity and movement”, did he declare. A statement that says a lot about the relationship of trust between the two men.
A meteoric rise
A walker from the start, Gabriel Attal has climbed the ranks at great speed since 2016. His meteoric rise seems modeled on that of Emmanuel Macron, to whom he is reputed to be very close. Until 2016, he discreetly cut his teeth in the Socialist Party, before joining Emmanuel Macron and becoming a rising star in the presidential camp.
First deputy then secretary of state and government spokesperson, he became minister of education in July 2023. His proximity to the head of state and his popularity opened the doors of Matignon to him.
