One million euros to support gender equality in rural areas. The government announced on Wednesday October 20 that it had released one million euros over two years to support associations “working for equality between women and men in rural areas”, where “half of feminicides” occurs. “In rural areas, women are often faced with particular situations of isolation and mobility”, explained in a joint statement the Minister responsible for Gender Equality Élisabeth Moreno and the Secretary of State for Rural Affairs, Joël Giraud.

“If violence within the couple affects all social circles, half of feminicides take place in rural areas”, they recalled. “The victims of this violence against women are often confronted with additional difficulties with an associative fabric that is less developed and therefore less accessible”.

“This envelope will take the form of a call for expressions of interest (AMI) which will make it possible to finance actions adapted to the specificities of rural areas in favor of women in rural areas”, they stressed.

The fields of action concerned are access to rights, the fight and prevention of violence against women in rural areas, and economic autonomy and professional integration of women in rural areas.
