Tears for Fears hits have passed through the generations. The 80s pop duo returns with a new album, after 18 years of silence. Soon new tubes?

After 18 years of absence, Tears for Fears are back with a new album, The Tipping Point. The duo experienced a dazzling celebrity in the 80s. Before being a duo, Roland Orzabal and Curt Smith first had their youth groups. “You don’t progress until you realize you’ve done some lousy stuff”, laughs today Curt Smith. In 1985, however, their virtuosity made everyone agree, thanks to hits like Shout, Everybody Wants to Rule the World or Head Over Heels.

Five years later, carried by the wave of new wave, Roland Orzabal and Curt Smith repeat the feat, with a new album. In the studio, Manu Katché, drummer on the album The Seeds of Love and author of Roadbook (Cherche Midi), remembers a great musical adventure. “[Il y avait] a musical atmosphere not of a group, but of very, very good musicians, so it goes quickly, it’s very creative”, he recalls. And this, even if “we feel that Curt and Roland, it’s not mad love”. The group broke up in 1992, then reformed in 2004. They are now back with a new album, which they describe as “a reflection on our time”.
