“La Vraie Vie de Buck John”, a new album by Jean-Louis Murat recorded during confinement

One album per year, that’s the rhythm maintained for years by the indestructible Jean-Louis Murat. Latest, just released: The Real Life of Buck John. A record recorded with all the constraints of confinement, for an artist never satisfied.

In 2020, Jean-Louis Murat released two records. Not really the best period. “I still chained two albums for nothing, I don’t even know if I sold a thousand”, explains the artist. “It’s still work, I still recorded two albums left like that in the decor! Me it does not make you think, it makes my banker think more than me”, he laughs.

But as the Auvergnat is stubborn, he did not stop writing, and here is finally the new one, in a more peaceful period. The Real Life of Buck John, recorded and mixed in a single studio, without bass, with the minimum available, depending on constraints. And with a change of record company to the key. “It’s really an album where I didn’t know if the next week I was going to do something with it”, recount Jean-Louis Murat.

At twenty records passed, the man this time wanted to make it concise. Twelve titles, between two and three minutes each, precise and direct. “As Bill Withers, 1 minute 59 this is the dream. I think the times are so much like coffee, tight, the songs have to get tight too. With the two and a half minutes long songs, people have to listen to it four or five times, which makes more money. I did not think about it !”

“A day without music is a wasted day.”

The confinements have not damaged him, nor his writing, nor his love for music. “I got into France Musique, classical music. I said to myself ‘Take the opportunity, my boy, to discover new things'”, explains Jean-Louis Murat.

And that Jean-Louis Murat is still there, perked up after the pandemic, remains undoubtedly a very good thing. This album is also accompanied by a return to the roads, with a visit in particular to Paris and Le Trianon on April 19.
