Every year, 1,500 lifeguards monitor the French coast. Report in Morbihan, where a handful of the 500 new recruits who will join the ranks this summer are in full training.
On the beach of Kerguélen in Larmor-Plage (Morbihan), all the conditions are met to enjoy: a turquoise blue sea, 25 degrees on the sand and a taste of summer. If the water is still fresh, the rescuers are in full exercise. A dozen young people are evaluated to become lifeguards. Every gesture counts, and the details are then analyzed as a group, under the sharp eye of the trainers. “We give keys, but it will be up to them to adapt them to their future beaches“, explains Jordan Peyronnet, deputy director of training at the SNSM.
From the buoy to the paddle through the inflatable boats, all means are good to help. The trainees have nine days to repeat the life-saving gestures. “LDifficulties are above all about adapting, understanding your environment, acquiring new knowledge, putting them in place gradually“, confides Alexandre Begon, future lifeguard. Thanks to these training courses organized on all the coasts, 500 new people will join the 1,400 lifeguards already in place, continuing their prevention work.
