Marion Cotillard is furious. On Instagram, the Oscar-winning actress publicly disputed the use of ice cubes from Greenland by luxury hotels in Dubai: “Hit rock bottom”. Marion Cotillard shared a video in which journalists explain in detail this scandal revealed a few days earlier by the British media The Guardian: “Cutting up millennia-old glaciers in Greenland to make ice cubes in Dubai is the absurd idea of the start-up Arctic Ice. The principle is simple: pollute as much as possible to sell at overpriced prices. The company transports cranes to Greenland to cut up pieces of glaciers over 100,000 years old“ can we read in this video already relayed several million times around the world.
The CEO of the incriminated start-up, Malik V. Rasmussen, has made it his mission “to help Greenland in its green transition”. And to do this, the entrepreneur has found nothing better than offering Dubai’s wealthy clientele ice cubes extracted from Greenlandic fjords to enhance their whiskeys, mojitos and other fine cocktails. Arctic Ice, to lure customers who are definitely ready to buy anything at any price, explains that “the ice is completely free of bubbles and melts more slowly than regular ice”. It is also said to be purer than a regular mineral icicle, on the grounds of originating directly from natural Arctic glaciers that have been frozen for 100,000 years.
Objective: boost Greenland’s economy
Many voices are being raised all over the world to protest against this new practice, but to also denounce the risk of spreading a new virus, extracted from these glaciers tens of thousands of years old. But the CEO of Arctic Ice denies this, and assures that “these parts have not been in contact with any soil, nor contaminated by pollutants produced by human activities.” It is therefore impossible to find yourself faced with a virus while tasting this black icenickname given to ice cubes intended for bars, restaurants and luxury hotels.
