On the occasion of European Antibiotic Information Day on Saturday November 18, the franceinfo junior program addresses the subject thanks to children’s questions. On Thursday November 16, they are asked by CM1-CM2 pupils from the school Jeanne Kaës in Beaumont-Saint-Cyr in Vienne.

To answer them, the show hands the microphone to a specialist on the subject: Etienne Ruppé, professor of bacteriology at Paris Cité University and Bichat Hospital – Claude Bernard, researcher in the research unit of the IAME (Infection, Antimicrobials, Modeling, Evolution) of Paris.

The first question is asked by Paul: “Who invented antibiotics?” asks the schoolboy into the microphone. Sara’s turn to speak: “What are antibiotics used for?” The opportunity for the guest to remind that these medications are “active against bacteria” who can give “infections”. Léa wonders if there are antibiotics “for all illnesses”. Alix wants to know “what are the effects of antibiotics on our body”. The opportunity to talk about antibiotic resistance and to remember that they “are not automatic”.

On this page, listen to this entire program on antibiotics again, from a child’s perspective.
