Congress: QS aims for a 55% reduction in GHGs

Gathered in convention, the delegates of Québec solidaire raised their greenhouse gas reduction target to 55% compared to the 1990 level by 2030. The current target of the Caquist government is rather 37.5%.

The activists adopted an emergency proposal as soon as the work opened on Saturday morning. QS’s target has so far been 45%, the highest of all parties represented in the National Assembly.

But environmental groups, including Greenpeace and Équiterre, recently called on Quebec to increase this effort to 65%.

QS explains that its proposal is intended as a middle position. The wording of the motion indicates that the measures that will be proposed by QS during the next electoral campaign will make it possible to come “as close as possible to the target” of 65% proposed by these groups.

In addition, delegates rejected amendments aimed at nationalizing the petroleum and various hydrocarbon industries.

But QS will now be in favor of nationalizing renewable energies, such as wind power, for example.
