The first shot on target of the game came in the 54the minute. This deflected shot from outside the area was seen as the providential helping hand, after a performance without color until then.
This innocuous strike found its way to the back of the net and allowed CF Montreal (CFM) to obtain their pass for the Canadian Championship final. At the end of a more than amorphous match, the CFM won 2-0 on Wednesday evening against Forge FC, a team from the Canadian Premier League.
If the derby of the Choinière brothers, Mathieu on the Montreal side, David on the Hamilton side, took care of entertaining the fans as much as possible in the first half, the Bleu-blanc-noir was more convincing after its success. Le Forge had to open the game and this allowed CFM to create several chances, which were often ruined.
However, Ariel Lassiter’s shot saved the day, as everything was going as the Forge wanted, with few chances. The countdown to the penalty shootout was well underway.
Sunusi Ibrahim scored the insurance goal in the 78the minute. Quebec striker Jules-Anthony Vilsaint also got his first minutes for the club, making his debut in the 84e minute.
CFM will face the winner of the other semi-final between Vancouver Whitecaps and Pacific FC, to be played later Wednesday. The final will be between June 6 and 8.
