Tributes have multiplied since the disappearance of the former Italian Prime Minister and media magnate, Silvio Berlusconi, who died at the age of 86, Monday June 12. He suffered from leukemia. A look back at the life of a colorful character.
Always in search of light and popularity, Silvio Berlusconi occupied the Italian political scene for almost 30 years. But it was also considered sulphurous. In front of the Milanese hospital where he died at 86, some supporters mourn his loss. “He brought me a lot throughout my life”, says one of them. He left his mark on Italy and was immediately welcomed by the current Prime Minister, Georgia Meloni. “Thanks to him, Italy understood that it should never allow itself to be limited“, she clarified.
A successful career
Born in 1936 in Milan, he was first a vacuum cleaner salesman or a singer on boats. From 1980, he built a real estate and media model. This triumph leads him to the head of the AC Milan football club, where he meets many successes. At 57, he entered politics, created his own right-wing party, and was elected head of government three times.
But he sometimes tenses his European partners as in 2009, when he proposed to Israel to become a European country. His life is also dotted with controversy, especially in parties with underage prostitutes. He was re-elected senator in September 2022.
