MEPs want to force doctors to settle where there are none. The commune of Plévenon in the Côtes-d’Armor has, for its part, decided to pay a medical student every month so that he can then come and settle with them.

And if you go to Cap Fréhel, where you spent your holidays as a child? Plévenon in the Côtes-d’Armor has already recruited its future doctor 400 kilometers from here. Léonard Farcy is still a student. He receives 400 euros per month from the Breton municipality and undertakes to work there afterwards. “The town hall makes sure to have a doctor in a few years, while all the municipalities in the area are looking a bit desperately to get doctors. On the other hand, I have peace of mind during my studies”says the medical student.

Commitment of at least seven years

The mayor was first surprised when the young man offered him this deal. “My first reaction was to be surprised. I didn’t know if the locality had the possibility of helping a young student”, explains Hervé Van Praag. The municipality has already bought the medical practice. It will be necessary to wait another seven years before seeing the student disembark. He, too, has signed up for at least seven years. If he changes his mind, he will have to reimburse the money to the municipality.
