Our health budget continues to grow. Despite government pressure to freeze prices, the price increase for mutuals is expected to continue in 2022.

Mutuals are supposed to take better care of your health expenses, but for that, they will have a cost which is increasingly higher: 2,883 euros on average for a couple of seniors, or 12 euros more than the year pass. Behind these tariffs hide disparities between territories, but also between ages. According to figures from Meilleurtaux Assurance, the cost of complementary health insurance for a senior couple sometimes exceeds 3,000 euros per year in Corsica, in the North, in Paris, but also in the Paca region.

How can we explain such a difference? The older the insured, the more they use care. Insurers also calculate premiums based on consumption habits, which are more important in urban areas. Patients consult more often, more easily and it is therefore logical that the bill is climbing. In rural areas, prices are lower. “We will have more kilometers to go to see doctors and specialists. If we reimburse less, we pay less“, explains Fabien Soccio, insurance expert at Meilleurtaux.
