Four people, including a 12-year-old girl, were injured by gunfire in an affluent neighborhood of Washington (United States), Friday afternoon, April 22. Three of the injured, taken to hospital, are in stable condition. The fourth victim, in his 60s, was treated at the scene. The shooting led to a major deployment of law enforcement in this area, as well as the confinement for a few hours of several schools and a university.
“The suspect we believe to be responsible for this is now deceased”, said the chief of police of Washington, Friday evening during a press conference. According to him, the individual killed himself when the police had just burst into his apartment. Investigators found there “a sniper-like device with a tripod”at least six firearms (including sniper rifles) and “many, many ammunition”.
The shooter’s motive remains unknown, but “obviously his intention was to kill and injure members of our community”, said the police chief. He said a video circulating on social media, appearing to be filmed from the shooter’s point of view, had “looks very authentic” but still needed to be assessed.
