(London) Spaniard Roberto Bautista Agut, 19e world, announced Thursday that he had to forfeit his match of 2e round of the Wimbledon tournament after testing positive for COVID-19.

“Today I informed Wimbledon of my withdrawal. I am positive for COVID-19, ”wrote the 2019 semi-finalist on the London lawn, on his Twitter account.
“Luckily the symptoms are not very serious, but I think it’s the best decision […] I hope to come back soon,” he added.
Bautista Agut, 34, was due to face Colombian Daniel Galan (109e) who is therefore qualified for the third round.
In the first round on Tuesday, the Spaniard had dominated the Hungarian Attila Balázs (331e) 6-1, 6-0, 6-3.
As the number of COVID-19 cases has risen again sharply in Britain, as elsewhere in Europe, Bautista Agut is the third notable victim of the virus in the third annual Grand Slam stage.
Before him, the Italian Matteo Berrettini, finalist last year and one of the contenders for the title, as well as the Croatian Marin Cilic, always formidable on grass, had to throw in the towel even before their first racket.
