This year, Sweden is hosting this major Eurovision contest, which it has already won seven times. What is his secret?
With seven victories to their name, Sweden are the undisputed Eurovision champions. What is the recipe of this country of 10 million inhabitants? This Saturday evening, there is a party atmosphere in the apartment of Annie Sarka, a 29-year-old bookseller. She and her guests watch the final to choose the Swedish candidate for Eurovision. “It’s really part of Swedish culture, a lot of us grew up with this program”she confides.
Working with the music industry
The show achieves the largest audience of the year in Sweden. Behind the program, Karin Gunnarsson, the producer. In 2024, she received more than 2,600 songs. The reputation of the show is such that all of Sweden’s music industry wants to participate. “Success is that we work very closely with the music industry”, she explains. Some composers have even become specialists, like Thomas G:son, who wrote around a hundred songs for the preselections in Sweden and in different European countries.
