France sees red, Tuesday May 7, at dawn from the May 8 and Ascension Bridge. These public holidays are a godsend for enjoying a long weekend and many French people will be taking to the road. According to forecasts from Bison futé, Tuesday will be the most difficult in terms of departures, but the worst is expected on Sunday, for returns.
There “traffic will be very difficult” in the direction of departures on Tuesday, to the point that the road information organization raised the red flag throughout the country. In a press release, Vinci Autoroutes specifies that there will be traffic peaks on the Atlantic coast, around certain cities such as Bordeaux and Poitiers (Vienna), in the Rhône valley and on the Mediterranean rim.
The next day, Wednesday, the whole of France will be in orange in the direction of departures for “difficult traffic”. There will then be, according to Bison futé, no particular difficulty on the roads Thursday and Friday in terms of departures and returns.
A Sunday in red and black
However, slowdowns and significant traffic jams are expected during the weekend. Saturday is classified as orange for returns and on Sunday, traffic will be “extremely difficult” in the northwest quarter of the country. In detail, Bison futé sees black in the Hauts-de-France, Normandy, Brittany, Pays de la Loire and Centre-Val de Loire regions, and red in the rest of the country.
In Marseille, the start of the Olympic torch relay should also cause significant difficulties on the roads at the end of the week, details Vinci Autoroutes in this other press release.
