“We need a start in our country in the fight against racism and anti-Semitism”estimated Monday May 6 on franceinfo Dominique Sopo, president of SOS Racisme, while the government launched meetings to fight anti-Semitism, in a context where the number of anti-Semitic acts recorded in France has almost quadrupled the year last, at 1,676 against 436 in 2022.
“All forms of hatred must be fought”according to him, denouncing the “bad geniuses” who “are going to use the fight against anti-Semitism to hit the Arabs, or the fight against racism to say that it is the Jews’ fault”. “There is a temptation in our society to fracture everything”continued Dominique Sopo, “including struggles against forms of hatred. If we allow this path to be taken, we are heading for great disillusionment”.
“There are still logics of irresponsibility in a very divided society, where political games will sometimes disrupt the question of unity in the fight against these scourges”also denounces the president of SOS Racisme, evoking “the extreme right of course, as well as part of the left, and even the government itself which can appear to be very unbalanced”.
