(Washington) The United States for the first time on Monday officially declared that the Muslim Rohingya minority had been the victim of a “genocide” perpetrated by the Burmese army in 2016 and 2017.

“I have established that members of the Myanmar military committed genocide and crimes against humanity against the Rohingya in 2016 and 2017,” US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said in Washington.
