War in Ukraine | Russian strikes on Kyiv and Kharkiv, nine injured in Kherson

(Kyiv) Several Russian drones attacked Kyiv overnight from Tuesday to Wednesday, at least two strikes targeted the city of Kharkiv, in western Ukraine, and nine people were injured in bombings in Kherson, in the south of the country, authorities announced.

“During the bombing of Kherson this evening by the Russian occupiers, nine people were injured, including four children” aged two to thirteen, the city’s mayor, Roman Mrochko, said on Telegram.

Among these injured “a mother and her three children were hospitalized. Their condition is moderate. They have bruises and explosive injuries,” he said, adding that the other five injured were treated at the scene.

Several Iranian-made “Shahed” explosive drones were also shot down by Ukrainian air defense as they were heading towards Kyiv, according to the head of the capital’s military administration, Serhiï Popko.

“According to preliminary data, […] there are no casualties or damage,” he wrote on Telegram, specifying that this attack, the fifth on the capital in December, had been carried out from the Black Sea.

The mayor of Kharkiv, Igor Terekhov, for his part reported at least two strikes near residential buildings in his city. “Information on casualties and destruction is being clarified,” he wrote on Telegram.

Since the fall, Moscow has increased nightly attacks against Ukrainian cities, at a time when Westerners’ will to support the country seems to be weakening. The leaders of the American Senate thus noted on Tuesday the fact that the United States would not adopt before the end of 2023 the envelope of 61 billion dollars in aid that Kyiv insists on demanding.
