Russian President Vladimir Putin on Wednesday October 20 ordered a week of paid vacation from October 30 to November 7 in an attempt to stem the deadly epidemic wave of Covid-19 in Russia. The week of October 30 to November 7 coincides with the Russian school holidays and only November 1, 2 and 3 were open, due to weekend days and public holidays. On Tuesday, the city of Moscow announced new restrictions since the summer.

The president also implored the Russians, very recalcitrant, to be vaccinated. “Please be responsible”, he said, “there are only two ways to get out of this period (epidemic): either by falling ill, or by being vaccinated”. He called “dangerous” the low vaccination rate in Russia. Vladimir Poutine also called for speeding up screening and strengthening measures to isolate contact cases.

The Russian president also gave the regions the possibility to start earlier or to extend the week of leave if the epidemic situation warrants it.
