It was 1973. The oil crisis was bringing about a strong comeback of the bicycle, “a weapon of protest for the enemies of the industrial society“. In Italy, in Palermo more precisely, there was not a single bicycle on sale a few hours after the announcement of the petrol restriction measures. France, which was not yet affected by the crisis was also experiencing the same rush on the bicycle.

In 1968, one million bicycles were manufactured in France, against 2.3 million for the year 1973.
