Wednesday August 24 marked the anniversary of Ukraine’s independence. No big popular celebration was organized, but a tribute to the victims of the war took place, and a promise was made by President Volodymyr Zelensky: that of a total victory over Russia.
In kyiv (Ukraine), Wednesday, August 24, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and his wife gathered at a memorial, on this anniversary of the country’s independence. With serious, solemn eyes, they placed a candle and observed a minute of silence. The national holiday was celebrated very discreetly: gatherings were banned for fear of Russian bombing, which did not prevent people from going out.
On Independence Square in kyiv, the president again called for resistance. “We will fight until the end. We have been holding on for 6 months, it is difficult, but we have clenched our fists fighting for our destiny”, he shouted. In a surprise visit, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson signaled his support for Ukraine. He promised 64 million euros in additional aid to the country.
