The Macron vote comes next with 33.4% of the vote, ahead of abstention with nearly 29%. The Le Pen vote was not proposed, by virtue of the instructions given by the candidate La France insoumise on the evening of the first round: “You must not give a voice to Madame Le Pen !”

The announcement of the results on the melenchon2022.fr website is preceded by the following clarification: “The result of this consultation is not an instruction given to anyone. It indicates the assessments of the 215,292 people who participated. Everyone will conclude and vote in conscience, as they see fit.”

Consultation of 310 000 online sponsors of Jean-Luc Mélenchon’s candidacy ended on Saturday at 8 p.m. It was preceded by a word from the ex-candidate, who won nearly 22% of the vote on 10 april : the second round “will unravel in defiance of our most fundamental repulsions. A presidency without moral authority will come out of it”, entrusts the tribune. But, he adds, the two finalists “are not equivalent”.

The candidate explains why he is doing this, while his voters are divided on the second round vote, according to some studies: “Let’s not give this duo the benefit of opposing each other over them when we are so strongly united on our projects. The cohesion of the Popular Union is our dearest asset.”

He had already consulted his supporters in 2017, when he finished fourth with 19.58% of the vote, with the same exception: “Not a voice on the far right”. The consultation also resulted in a short majority for the blank or null vote (36%), just ahead of the vote for Emmanuel Macron (nearly 35%), just under a third remaining speaking for abstention.
