Two suspects charged with attempted murder on A-440 in Laval

The two men who were arrested at the end of last April in connection with the attempted murder of an alleged organized crime leader a few weeks earlier in Laval, were arrested again on Monday morning.

Several media have claimed that the victim of this attempted murder was Leonardo Rizzuto, which the police have not yet confirmed.

The police officers of the National Organized Crime Repression Squad (ENRCO) specify that the two suspects are Kevin Rochebrun, 32, from Mascouche, and Steve Emmanuel Barthelemy, 34, from the Rivière-des-Prairies district in the north- east of Montreal.

Both men will appear later Monday at the Laval Courthouse to face charges of attempted murder and conspiracy to murder.

Sergeant Marc Tessier, of the Sûreté du Québec (SQ), explains that after their first arrest, the two suspects were released, but that the continuation of the investigation about them in this case led to their arrest for a second time.

They had not been identified when they were arrested in April.

The armed robbery took place on March 15 around 4:30 p.m. The victim was traveling west on Highway 440 in his black Mercedes vehicle, near exit 17 giving access to Highway 13. According to the police, the occupant of a black Porsche Macan vehicle allegedly fired several times at the victim’s car.

The investigation then revealed that a second vehicle, another Porsche Macan, this time red, could also have been linked to this attempted murder.

After the shooting, the driver of the Mercedes took Highway 13 southbound and drove to the parking lot of a funeral complex in the Sainte-Dorothée district. He had his life saved.

Marks from several firearm projectiles were very apparent on his vehicle.
