A 58-year-old bus driver was beaten to death by two of his passengers in 2020, in Bayonne (Pyrénées-Atlantiques). 12/13 info collected the testimony of his wife, who is awaiting trial.
It is in Pau (Pyrénées-Atlantiques) that the trial of two 25-year-old men is being held on Friday September 15. The latter are the main accused of the murder of Philippe Monguillot, bus driver. They face 20 years in prison. Véronique Monguillot, his wife, has been rehashing her memories since July 5, 2020, the last time she saw her husband. “The moment he said, ‘See you tonight, darling,’ I was sitting there. We were texting each other.”she tells the France Télévisions teams.

But in the afternoon, no more answers: Philippe Monguillot was severely beaten. In the midst of Covid-19, two passengers refused to wear their masks. Philippe died a few days later. “With the girls, we said ‘Send him whatever (…) but save him’. We already knew that we couldn’t save him”, remembers his wife. For her, the trial will help her begin her mourning. The death of Philippe Monguillot in 2020 sparked numerous reactions across the country. A white march brought together nearly 8,000 people in Bayonne (Pyrénées-Atlantiques).
