Trapped, Putin now risks going all out

No matter how isolated he was after the failed Prigozhin coup, Vladimir Putin no doubt saw the images of ordinary Russians taking selfies with the rebel in Rostov-on-Don.

This Russian capital, stormed by Prigozhin without any real resistance from Putin’s “national guard”, testifies to the uncertainty of his control over a country weary of an illegal war that has cost tens of thousands of lives. Russians.

Prigozhin was encouraged not only by the Russian people, but also, clearly, by military elements who did nothing to prevent him from acting.

Putin now risks going all out in Ukraine, as he feels his days are numbered.

the big lie

In the past, the KGB mastered the technique of the “big lie” to deny the obvious. We knew that there would always be “useful idiots” to repeat it and make it a truth. This time, however, the whole world saw, live, that Emperor Putin was naked. State lies can indeed do nothing against the striking images of a historical moment when everything risks tipping over.

Let’s be clear, the only reason Russia hasn’t lost its illegal war against Ukraine yet is because of the brutal and effective presence of Prigozhin’s mercenaries on the ground.

At the same time, the institutional and material weakness of the once formidable Russian army has been exposed. It’s a shame for Putin.

Hearing Prigozhin mocking the main Russian pretext for justifying the war, namely the so-called “denazification” of Ukraine, was quite a slap in the face for Putin. It is as if the American General Westmoreland had denounced the “domino theory” against communism, which had been used to justify his illegal war in Vietnam…

dictators and killers

Lately, President Biden made headlines when he called the Chinese president a “dictator”. Biden didn’t flinch, he simply reaffirmed that was his bottom line.

It’s reminiscent of the famous time Biden called Putin a “killer” (killer). It was a year before the invasion.

History is proving him right.

Trudeau once called China a dictatorship. It was before his election as Prime Minister, but it was undoubtedly, in his case too, the bottom of his thought.

It remains, therefore, surprising to see him doing everything to try to camouflage Chinese interference in our elections.

He seeks, in fact, to hide his inaction in the face of this interference which was aimed above all at his adversaries.

After David Johnston’s flawed analysis, there are signs that Trudeau would be ready to launch a commission of inquiry, provided that his work is divided, in order to avoid compromising his electoral plans.

On Wednesday, he said he would like his employees’ hollow conclusions about the 2019 and 2021 elections to be recognized as fact.

Let’s hope the Conservatives, the NDP and the Bloc don’t fall into this trap. All the light must be shed.

Canada’s often naive attitude to an increasingly dangerous world is in itself a danger to our future.
