Tragically Hip Documentary Series to Make World Premiere at TIFF

(Toronto) A four-part documentary series on The Tragically Hip and short films by Oscar winner Torill Kove and actor Connor Jessup are among the Canadian additions to the Toronto International Film Festival.


Organizers say the “Primetime” program includes the long-awaited world premiere of The Tragically Hip: No Dress Rehearsalwhich will air on Prime Video.

Announced in 2022, it is directed by Mike Downie, the brother of the band’s late leader Gord Downie.

Television-focused programming also includes The Knowing from indigenous storytellers Courtney Montour and Tanya Talaga, Apple TV+ thriller from Alfonso Cuarón, Disclaimerstarring Cate Blanchett, and British director Joe Wright’s biopic of Benito Mussolini, Mr. Son of the Century.

In addition to work by Connor Jessup and a new animated project by Torill Kove, the short film lineup includes a title by American actress Dakota Johnson and a film by Arshile Khanjian Egoyan, the son of acclaimed Canadian filmmaker Atom Egoyan.

TIFF will take place from September 5 to 15.
