Traditional or creamy television? | The Press

Which digital platforms attract the most French-speaking customers in the country? Who exclusively consumes their programs online? Will the public one day see, hear, the visceral Clément Bisson?

The last line refers to a classic gag by François Pérusse, the real ones know, as we say in a hashtag on Instagram.

Like Paul Houde cracked up on the Postum coffee, and before dissecting the news from Tou.TV and Club illico, I unpack the latest statistics out of the oven about “OTT television services”. Understand: all these “premium” subscriptions that clutter up our credit cards monthly.

According to the Media Technology Observatory, 62% of French-speaking Quebecers currently subscribe to Netflix, a spectacular leap compared to its penetration rate of 37% measured in 2019.

In second place among the most popular platforms, there is Amazon Prime Video, which reaches 31% of French-speaking Quebec households. Next, in order, are Disney+ services (24%), Extra from Tou.TV (13%), Crave from Bell Media (13%), Club illico from Videotron (11%) and Apple TV+ (6%). ).

Three groups split up and devour the enormous TV pie of 2022. Half operate in hybrid mode and mix traditional TV with creamy digital TV, which turns out to be more expensive.

A quarter of viewers – the youngest – only engulf television offered online. On the other hand, another quarter – the oldest, yes, it’s a cliché – reject all these pay services and watch their shows only on “regular” TV thanks to good old cable. This faction grumbles and complains with the regularity of a metronome when I discuss a series from Netflix, Disney+ or Crave here.

Do you work for Netflix? Why are you promoting an American giant that is flattening Quebec culture? mock yourself in my personal mailbox. I’m talking about it because 62% of Quebecers have a Netflix account and they’re drowning in its overwhelming catalog, that’s it.

Back to regular programming, Serge Boucher’s next special TV series (Brittle, Lights), which he claims to be his “testament series”, will land on Tou.TV’s Extra on December 15. His title : Fragments. His story: that of a quartet of friends from Victoriaville who reconnect after 30 years of silence. I can’t wait to see James Hyndman, René Richard Cyr and Céline Bonnier there.

The third and final chapter of comedy Guys will open on the Extra on November 3. Martin (Normand Daneau) no longer lives with Sophie (Nathalie Mallette) and Étienne (Yanic Truesdale), who rented his condo, moves in with Christian (Christian Bégin).

The fourth season of Plan B, online on Extra in February, will revolve around “a little crook”, played by Pier-Luc Funk, who will use the agency’s services to enrich himself and, he believes, settle all the problems of his dysfunctional family. Mistake.

The fans of eye of the storm will have to wait until February to get into the third season, where Isabelle (Christine Beaulieu) officially forms a couple with Mathieu (Pierre-Yves Cardinal).

Still on Tou.TV’s Extra, Lou and Sophie return in January in their famous Dolores car, while Isabelle Langlois’ new creation, The candidatewill show up later in 2023. Same (long) wait for the psychological suspense Eyes closed with Magalie Lépine-Blondeau and Benoît McGinnis: it’s scheduled for April.

After Loto-Meno and Shadow and lightVéronique Cloutier tackles gossip in her docuseries The rumor machine, split into three one-hour episodes. Posted on the Extra: December 15. From yellow newspapers to web sites fueled by clicks, Véro meets the old guard of gossip writers (Roger Sylvain, Érick Rémy) as well as the new generation of gossips, whom we read on world of stars Where QC Scoop.

I also saw on Tuesday a first sketch ofA boy a girl, where Guy and Sylvie persist in an STM bus, and the magic still works as it did 20 years ago. Add a note to your iCalendar: All four episodes of this cult sitcom arrive in March.

On the Club illico side, we will finally watch (November 24) the miniseries The night Laurier Gaudreault woke up by Xavier Dolan. This prestigious project, first developed at Bell Media, would be one of the most expensive in the history of Quebec television, according to rumour. It features the original cast of Michel Marc Bouchard’s play, including Julie Le Breton, Patrick Hivon, Magalie Lépine-Blondeau and Éric Bruneau. Anticipation level: very high.

Club illico will offer the third and final season of The flaw from November 9. The sequel to the soap opera Wewinner of a Gémeaux award in September, arrives on December 8, while the choral series on the Lac-Mégantic tragedy will be released on February 16.

Now, to get through all this original content, will we have to shorten our nights and put on Adderall like Marc-André (Éric Bruneau) in Before the crash ?

Of course not. The Press does not encourage the use of medications that have not been prescribed by medical professionals. We prefer to let you know.
