People affected by the Omicron variant of Covid-19 must self-isolate for ten days. A rule that could change in the future in France.

In France, the spread of the Omicron variant of Covid-19 is disrupting the functioning of businesses and public services. The duration of the isolation of patients raises the question: currently set at ten days for the new variant, should it be reduced? Could positive and asymptomatic people work? This possibility divides within a pharmacy: some fear to see carriers of the virus infecting colleagues, another customer is not opposed, if the barrier gestures are respected.

Some countries have relaxed their rules. The isolation period has been reduced from ten to seven days in the UK for those infected and vaccinated. To return to work, it is necessary to present two negative tests. In South Africa, there is no longer an isolation period for asymptomatic people: a solution that is not on the agenda in France. If the Omicron variant turns out to be more contagious, the duration of contagiousness of an infected person is still unknown.
