“This addiction was chosen!”

At almost 70 years old, Patrick Sébastien signs a new work entitled Nostalvia published this Thursday, September 28, 2023 by XO editions. In this book, the host looks back on his entire career and particularly on his quarrel with Brigitte Bardot… but also on his friendship with Pierre Palmade.

In turn, after Muriel Robin, Patrick Sébastien dissociates himself from the comedian and also talks about his many addictions. “I really liked Pierre. Without being intimate, I had the opportunity to share a few evenings with him a long time ago. When his addiction was already there, but had not completely enslaved him. He was funny, scathing. I remember a line which, in his current situation, takes on even more significance” he recalls.

“This addiction was chosen”

Patrick Sébastien then recounts this famous evening: “It was in a fashionable club, thirty years ago. On a bench, there was a celebrity. Not a star. A nice guy in his fifties at the time. Strong, strong-mouthed, a bit of a hunk, he showed off. He was surrounded by a cluster of pretty girls much younger than him.

Pierre Palmade then says to Patrick Sébastien: “You see that thing over there? He’s unhappy, but he doesn’t know it. I’m going to go tell him!” And the host makes a detailed analysis: “He didn’t go there, of course. It was to make a statement. But this word sticks even more in my memory since the terrible news item. With an obvious question: “What he thought of ‘something’ wasn’t firstly what he thought of himself? I sincerely believe that it was.”

And Patrick Sébastien concludes firmly: “I have heard a lot about loneliness. The smoke and mirrors. The pangs of fame. His defense lawyers put his slippage down to his addiction. Once again a victim before being guilty. But this addiction has was chosen. The search for extreme pleasures was not a curse. It was willed. With full knowledge of the facts, without any consideration of the consequences. For me, despite the friendship I have for him, the circumstances are not not attenuating, they are aggravating.”.
