The fires that hit the Var this summer killed two people, authorities said. This assessment is likely to increase, four months after the events. A third body was discovered, a judicial source told France Televisions on Saturday (November 20th). A neighbor found it, chemin du Canadel, in Cogolin (Var), on September 10, about a hundred meters from a shed. DNA tests are still underway to identify the body.

If the gendarmerie has not formally linked this body to the summer fires, the prosecution clearly evokes a link. The investigation by the gendarmerie made it possible to determine that the fire had started from a motorway rest area and that a cigarette could be at the origin. However, the author of this fire has not yet been identified.

The Massif des Maures and the hinterland of Saint-Tropez (Var) were victims of fires in mid August. The charred bodies of two victims were found in a house hit by flames, in the town of Grimaud, in the heart of the Massif des Maures.
