the young man who rescued children will receive the medal of the city

He acted by “reflex”. Khireddine Rahmouni, a young Boulazacois helped three children from a family stuck in their apartment, in the building affected by a fire on Sunday in Périgueux, in the Saint-Martin church district. He had testified the same evening to recount his heroic gesture on France Blue Perigord. The town hall of Périgueux announces that it has decided to give him the city medalduring a ceremony which will be organized this Wednesday, March 30 at the town hall, to “to honour” and “to acknowledge” his exceptional gesture.

The 27-year-old was on the street when he heard a woman screaming, trapped with her children on the second floor. He has climbed the facade of the building to shelter them near a window while waiting for the firefighters to arrive. The family he helped will be present for the ceremony, in the wedding hall of the town hall, with the person in charge of the rescue center of Périgueux and a representative of the police station.

The medal is a brass disc, on which is engraved the coat of arms of the city of Périgueux. The town hall could make a request to the prefect of the Dordogne, to ask him to give the young man the medal of courage and dedication.

In all, eight residents of the building were taken to hospital because they had inhaled smoke from the fire. The following day, a 16-year-old girl was arrested on suspicion of setting fire to objects in the hallway in revenge for an ex-boyfriend. The case is still ongoing.
