Minister Roberge made the announcement on Twitter.

“Mr. Simon Lamarre was convicted of the criminal offense of voyeurism. The nature and gravity of the offense are irreconcilable with the teaching profession. I thus authorized, on the recommendation of my ministry, the revocation of Mr. Lamarre’s patent, ”writes Jean-François Roberge.

Teacher in 5e year of elementary school and lecturer in two universities until his arrest, Simon Lamarre had fun filming the private parts of young women and teenagers at the swimming pool and in the metro. His crimes only ceased when tracking police caught him in the act at the Villa Maria metro station in Montreal. On the escalator, he subtly slipped his cell phone under the school uniform skirts of 14 or 15 year old girls.

During his trial, he did not rule out returning to teaching one day.

The judgment rendered Monday at the Montreal courthouse would technically have allowed him to do so. “It is not in the public interest to neutralize the knowledge of the accused and to deprive oneself of fifteen years of study or university work”, ruled the judge Jean-Jacques Gagné. He granted him a discharge, conditional on 150 hours of community service and continued therapy.
