Olympic Swimming Trials | Penny Oleksiak wins women’s 50 meter freestyle

(Toronto) Penny Oleksiak won the women’s 50-meter freestyle event at the Canadian Olympic swimming trials on Sunday.

Oleksiak crossed the finish line with a time of 25.06 seconds, finishing above the Olympic qualifying standard of 24.70 seconds. However, it was a personal high for the Torontonian.

British Columbian Taylor Ruck took second place in 25.08 seconds.

Oleksiak also finished under the Olympic qualifying time in the 200-meter freestyle, after finishing the event in ninth position.

The seven-time Olympic medalist triumphed in the 100-meter freestyle on Friday, narrowly missing the Olympic qualification threshold but falling under the consideration time.

This performance allowed the 23-year-old athlete to give himself a chance to participate in the 4×100 meter freestyle relay competition at the Paris Games.
