Three years ago, the murder in Avignon (Vaucluse) of brigadier Éric Masson, father of two children, aroused national emotion. The meditation now gives way to the trial of the alleged murderer and his two accomplices. On May 5, 2021, at 6:30 p.m., the police officer and his colleague went to a deal point in the city for a routine check. After observing a drug transaction, they intervene. One of the two suspected drug dealers fires a handgun. Éric Masson was hit three times and died at the scene of the shooting.
Life imprisonment
Investigations quickly named Illias Akoudad, 22, as the alleged shooter. Despite overwhelming evidence, he still denies being involved today. An untenable version for the lawyer of the brigadier’s family for whom his guilt of “there is no doubt”. For murder and attempted murder of a person holding public authority, he risks life imprisonment.
