About thirty teachers from the Camille Vernet college in Valence gathered this Thursday at the lunch break in front of their establishment. They demonstrated against the probable deletion of hours next fall. This drop in resources could lead to job cuts and lesson cuts for students.
A breach of equal opportunity
To sum up the situation, the teachers posed in front of the gates of the colleges with a slogan “No means, no success“Because a drop in resources would, for example, lead to the reduction of certain language courses.”It will demotivate them for German, explains Samira, representative of the PEEP. Students will stop choosing that language if they reduce the hours.“
Beyond languages, it will no doubt be necessary remove orientation workshops offered to third graders but also personalized help. And for one of the mathematics teachers, these deletions are the rupture of equal opportunities for students. “Well, the students who are lagging behind, we leave them behind, the others they move forward, we with them…‘ she said, wryly.
Because the personalized help makes it possible to approach misunderstood concepts in small groups, in particular for maths. “At a time when the government says it wants to put the package on maths, it is still surprising to suppress this learning“adds the teacher. The parents and teachers of the Camille Vernet college hope to be heard by the rectorate, otherwise the abolition of these means will be ratified at the end of June, by the board of directors.
A similar situation in other Drôme establishments
The Marcel Pagnol college in Valence also mobilized against this abolition of endowment. In Chabeuil, the teachers of the Seignobos college have launched a petition against the abolition of two postsone English and one sports. A class is also at risk of closing in this establishment. A delegation of professors will also be received on April 12 by the academic director, in Valence. Parents of students plan to participate in this hearing.
In the Drôme, 23 positions in all are threatened at the start of the next school year.
