Sexual violence: the scourge of medical control
Sexual violence: the scourge of medical control
(France 2)
In Doubs, around twenty women accuse a 66-year-old doctor of sexual assault. The man, who denies the facts, was indicted. A case which highlights the problem of medical influence.
In Morteau (Doubs), it was behind the closed doors of his office that a 66-year-old doctor allegedly abused his patients. No fewer than 21 women today accuse him of sexual assault, including rape, during their consultations. The doctor, who denies the facts, was indicted. Accusations against practitioners have increased in recent years. To remedy this, Dominique Dupagne, a general practitioner, is campaigning for the prohibition of sexual relations between a doctor and his patient to be included in the Code of Ethics.
A systematic bankruptcy of the Order of Physicians denounced
“If the doctor makes advances towards the patient, in the asymmetrical relationship in which the patient finds himself, he may imagine that it is more or less normal, he is a little paralyzed, as always in so-called control relationships, which pose a huge problem”, explains Dominique Dupagne. In 2021, 37 associations and unions denounced the systematic failure of the Order of Physicians in the face of sexual assault perpetrated by practitioners.
