M6 is bringing “The Island” back on the air but why was Mike Horn ousted from the project?

In 2015, M6 broadcast “The Island, alone in the world”, a docu-adventure adapted from the English format The Island with Bear Grylls. The concept is simple: between ten and thirty castaways of all ages are dropped onto a deserted archipelago in Panama. These participants must then manage to return to dry land and civilization with primary means of feeding themselves: hunting, fishing, shellfish or coconuts.

After four seasons offered between 2015 and 2018, the program finally disappeared from the screens, due to lack of audience. Against all expectations, the channel seems to want, in 2024, to focus on its former flagship programs since it has just announced the imminent broadcast of a new show inspired by the Bachelor and the big return of the show “The Island, alone in the world”.

According to Le Parisien, the channel is in fact working with the production company Endemol France to bring about the comeback of the adventure program. We learn that the emblematic presenter of the show, Mike Horn, will not be part of the return of this show. He would in fact be replaced by a young 37-year-old Frenchman named Loury Lag.

“The Island, alone in the world” back on M6: presenter Mike Horn ousted?

If the famous presenter will not reprise his role, it is above all because he is starring in the show “Mike Horn: surviving the impossible” on the RMC Découverte channel. The channel would therefore have decided to focus on a new face less known to the general public even if we note that Loury Lag participated in the show “Return to primary instinct” in 2018.

Still according to Le Parisien, filming is planned for the end of spring. As always, the candidates who will be delivered to dangerous and extreme living conditions will be supervised by a team of twelve people, including a doctor, a military nurse, a survival specialist or even a first aid instructor ensuring their safety. Personnel capable of intervening in just a few minutes, by boat or helicopter to rescue any adventurer in distress.
