A week after the death of Shemseddine, a teenager beaten to death in Viry-Châtillon (Essonne), “the residents are still very, very shocked and very impatient to participate in this white march” organized Friday April 12 afternoon, testifies on France Bleu Paris Jean-Marie Vilain, the mayor of the city.

The funeral of the 15-year-old took place on Tuesday. The mayor of Viry-Châtillon exchanged by text message Thursday morning with Shemseddine’s mother: “She is still very shocked. She will not participate in this white march because she simply does not have the strength, the physical strength, the moral strength”, he said. However, the family, aunts and cousins in particular, will be present: “The family will have a word of expression at the end of the white march”said the mayor.

The inhabitants of Viry-Châtillon continue to wonder about the underlying reasons for such a tragedy. “How can we get to this point? And above all, how can we avoid getting to this point”asks the local mayor who went to talk with his constituents after the fact.
