The REM in service on the South Shore within “30 to 45 days”

The South Shore branch of the Metropolitan Express Network (REM) could be put into service within 30 to 45 days, according to a notice sent to the Regional Metropolitan Transport Authority (ARTM).

This notice was shared on Monday with the public transport companies in the region, in particular the Société de transport de Montréal (STM) and the Réseau de transport de Longueuil (RTL).

“This is excellent news for sustainable mobility in the region,” responds ARTM spokesperson Simon Charbonneau by email.

For its part, CDPQ Infra has confirmed that it will begin the last phase of testing on Wednesday before commissioning its network between the Brossard and Central Station stations.

Dry running consists of operating the network at the same frequency as a commissioning, but without passengers. The subsidiary of the Caisse de depot et placement du Québec (CDPQ) will later confirm the official date of the commissioning of the REM.

Further details will follow.
