Inflation is now hitting the fish market, which is experiencing an unprecedented price increase. Some of them have seen their price double.

20 euros for the julienne, 30 euros for the sole and 36 for the cod. Prices per kilo are skyrocketing for fish, which are highly prized in the markets. In Pouliguen (Loire-Atlantique), customers are trying to find solutions against inflation: “We will buy less white fish and we will compare the price between the market and the supermarket”explains a buyer. “I take things that are not too expensive, when they are on sale… and I no longer eat vegetables”abounds another consumer of fish.

By way of comparison, gilthead seabream costs 33 euros per kilo, which is double compared to last year. Among the factors justifying this increase, the increase in ancillary costs, such as electricity or the operation of energy-intensive machines in packaging plants. Professionals in the field fear that this increase will take hold over the years to come.
