Three months to the day of the polling day for the European elections, June 9, the Macronists are launching the European campaign in earnest with a first major meeting in Lille on Saturday March 9. At the podium, there will be Valérie Hayer, MEP and head of the list, who will introduce herself to the activists and take stock of the Macronists in the European Parliament. The Prime Minister, Gabriel Attal, will also make a speech, but no video of the Head of State to expect. “He cannot return to the campaign before the vote in Parliament next week on support for Ukraine”says one of his lieutenants, even if Emmanuel Macron has, in fact, already launched the offensive against the National Rally.

A first meeting therefore, and the idea of the Macronists is that “the campaign launch does not stop on Saturday evening”. They took a long time to get going, so it’s a matter of getting going, while they are around 10 points behind the RN. By the end of the weekend, the presidents of federations will have posters of Valérie Hayer to put up, because the Bouches-du-Rhône activists made people jealous last weekend: the Marseillais had around thirty posters of the candidate in preview… just to cover those of Jordan Bardella, who was at a meeting in the Marseille city. Leaflets are also being prepared for activists to go into the field “as soon as possible”.

Éric Dupond-Moretti, Rachida Dati… Ministers called to “mobilize”

Large meetings like the one in Lille, there will a priori be two others, but there will mainly be smaller public meetings and not always with Valérie Hayer. On stage, there may be his future running mates, who will not be known before the end of the month, or members of the government. Emmanuel Macron asked them to “fighting toe to toe”. “All ministers must mobilize”insists Matignon, where an advisor is eager to see the “sniper” Éric Dupond-Moretti enters the track against the RN. “The pop star” Rachida Dati, according to an executive, is also eagerly awaited. To fill rooms, the majority also counts on Bruno Le Maire, or even Christophe Béchu and Catherine Vautrin who have strong local roots. Gabriel Attal will also hold other meetings after Lille. The Macronists will try to mobilize their base, while a government heavyweight admits “not to be very calm for these Europeans”.
